One of the doctors I consulted for my rheumatoid arthritis was Dr. Gabe Merkin, who has a radio show and a web site, and is always willing to try something new. As soon as he saw me he told me I was insulin resistant and probably had polycystic ovaries - which causes overweight and also facial hair and heavy periods - and that I had to cut out sugar and starch. All I wanted him to do was treat the rheumatoid - and wound up going to someone else - but read up on what he told me and he was right. Not everyone has the same metabolism, and no diet works for everyone. We probably are descended from people who could live a long time during a famine!
