Peter, In a complete remission there is no evidence of disease. It is like a cure, but the term isn't used because frequently complete remissions are only temporary. Although there is no evidence of disease, it can frequently be present below detectable levels and emerge at a later date.
Successfully treated can be just about anything from aleviating pain, stabilizing the disease, shrinking the tumor, inducing a partial remission, inducing a complete remission, or curing the disease (Cure is rarely used in the area of cancer. 5-10 years of complete remission are generally minimum time frames before the word can be mentioned).
