Gilbear, I just went and re-read my response to you. I am not sure which part of it qualifies as "threatened", but oh well.
I have not noticed Warren Buffet, or any other Wall Stree billionaires engaging in chats on these threads, so it is safe to say that all of us SI posters rank somewhere between idiots, and reasonably well-informed (even modestly successful) investors. At times, I have had the privledge of spanning the entire spectrum (from idiot to modestly successful that is).
If you make any investment decisions based on any information I or anybody else posts on SI, you are playing roulette with your money. I encourage you to research companies carefully. USe SI only as a sounding board to get opinions (both positive and negative). Nobody else will care if you lose a fortune in the market.
Feel free to follow my postings. You will see that I post on just a handfull of threads. Generally, I focus on technology. That is what I know best. I like SI because there are a good number of non-technical folks with a very different perspective.
I am bullish on some stocks, bearish on others. I have a portfolio of stock investments doing OK. The best I can say, is it has been over 4 years since my only big loser (I lost > $10K on CGRM). My best investment to date, has been my house that I bought just 12 mos ago, and it has already appreciated > 6 digits (based on next door neigbors selling price of very similar house). I have also done quite well with LSI, and BORL.
Regarding Octel, I provide a service on this thread of keeping the Octel Bulls thinking about their investment. I point out the risks that I see (or possible risks) of owning Octel. Gregory, my best sparring partner here, generally responds with equally lively Octel upside opportunities. I don't think that anybody here has changed their investment strategy based on either one of our opinions. However, anybody who listened to Gregory and bought in at 15 is probably smiling a big one right now :-) |
