CD-ROM is for future software distribution. They cost like $0.60. Zip disks are for removable storage. Something the floppy has been unable to do since hard drives left the 40MB realm and went to 80 MB. Software distribution will not be a factor in replacing or not replacing the 3.5" 1.44 MB floppy drive.
