Well, re-read some of my posts, and I think you'll see we have more agreement than you might suspect.

I don't understand why some seemingly inconsequential stories get legs while other, much more impactful stories are quickly relegated to the archives.

The shooting story, while indeed tragic, is significant only in that it illuminates a part of Cheney's character that has already been well documented. He is caustic, dismissive of the media, and arrogant. He is one who does not believe in established process or common courtesy. Lots of Republicans admire this as direct and no-nonsense. I happen to think the guy is a classic short-guy-complex creep; therefore, this story is no big deal (in the larger sense).

I am not anti-Republican. I am anti-neocon. I do not believe that true Republicans are in control of their party. I believe that the current divisiveness has blinded loyal GOP supporters into defending the undefendable. A cold, dispassionate review of the Bush years will, in later times, reveal an ugly picture that Republicans will spend decades trying to live down.

Hopefully, this story will settle, and people will get back to the real business. Like how Cheney seems to have released classified information as a petty political tactic. Maybe how Cheney has handled himself in this shooting incident will allow more people to properly frame that discussion. I need no such preframing, for I see Dick Cheney with crystal clarity.
