sounds like a good plan, Paul. I've certainly been pleased with DSL (and will keep it until cable modems are available in my neighborhood.)

I wouldn't worry too much about installing the cable modem yourself, if it comes to that. Since it should be an external device (it is, isn't it?) there's nothing too tough to tweak if you already have a network card installed.

You might explore how much more it would cost to not tie yourself into a year contract. US West announced a special I nabbed shortly after their first special (similar to GTE's) that required no long-term contract. Since cable modems are cheaper, and other competitors may enter your market, it might pay to have some room to negotiate.
