Frank- Thanks for the post. I find myself agreeing with every comment you made. But don't forget that the telco's answer to the cableco's Lightwire project is Bellsouth's FTTH deployments. Here's a link to that article:

And IMHO, Lightwire and BLS's FTTH are not really going to be deployed in mass for at least 5 years. In the meantime, it's just good old DSL lite and the 400kbps cable modem speeds consumers are dying for today. That's probably a few hundred billion dollars in deployment cost right there. I can't even imagine what FTTH and Lightwire would ultimately end up costing.

Orverall, from an investors viewpoint it's just great. The general scenario you propose, translates into all types of Service Providers(SP) generally spending the least amount possible to solve a problem, then spending more as the first solution fails. After all it took 100 years to bring a dial tone to 200 million local loops. And 50 years to run the coax to 70 million homes. We should expect the broadband revolution to go on for quite a few years. -MikeM(From Florida)
