Why would anyone buy Coca Cola when they can get much cheaper generic colas? Or just drink tapwater for that matter?

It's interesting how some who claim that price is all that matters when it comes to Office software quickly reverse themselves when it comes to things like Database software, no? After all, SQL Server is much cheaper than Oracle and provides nearly the same functionality.

Upfront price is only one component of any purchase decision and is rarely the dominant consideration even in pure commodity markets. Haven't you ever wondered how a gas station that consistently charges 2-3 cents per gallon more than one on the next block manages to stay in business?
