While I don't think the Cisco WiFi phone is the only thing driving CSCO stock, it has generated some interest. In addition to the InfoWorld piece you linked, there was also a nice article in Wireless Data News.

While I haven't heard an analyst talk about this particular product, it is possible that there's a buzz in a firm or two. I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of the firms that are part of the beta test are Wall Street firms. This is a tried and true way for a tech firm to get a good Street buzz when they've got a cool product. Stratacom (now part of Cisco) was particularly astute about this in pushing early adoption of ATM over a private WAM. They basically gave Goldman all the equipment that Goldman wanted, the stuff worked, and Goldman trumpeted to the world how great Stratacom technology worked on their network. First Boston also incorporated a lot of Stratacom stuff early on.

Next time I run up to New York I'm going to be on the lookout for a few of those Cisco WiFi phones.
