I think Broder, though a tad biased, is one of the best analysts around, and always worth reading. On the other hand, it really is practically a no- brainer. Of course the main factor, consciously or unconsciously, in Gore's probable loss/possible squeaker in this economy is Clinton. You are wrong, though, to lay it mainly on the committed conservatives. JLA, the Major, and I myself would not have voted for Gore anyway, on the issues. No, it was the moderates, or a good number of them, who might have voted for Gore who were swayed by disgust at the scandals of the Administration and Gore's involvement in them, and who wanted a change of face.

The failure to carry their home states is very significant, symbolically, despite the closeness of the election. Those who know them best reject them, as it were.......
