It is all in the controller, sylvester, it is all in the controller. And understanding how HDs actually work. It took years to develop the controller they are using. If you think that Sandisk would put out a product that will fail prematurely, or if you think that their customers would accept 3-bit or 4-bit flash without extensively testing it, then you are out of touch with reality. Or, it you aren't, then the company is along with Jim Handy and me. And any number of other people.
As far as statements from Micron go--I've followed Micron for more than a decade. They have been survivors in a brutal sector, I have to credit them with that. That said, they have any number of times over the years introduced vaporware. Either the products never happened, or the timetables were way way off. You keep bringing up Sandisk's G3. Ok, point taken. You could even add a couple of other examples over the past 10-12 years. But for the most part, they've done what they said they were going to do, and when they said it. They have tended to under-promise and over-deliver over the years, much to the chagrin of some of us after CCs when they seemed to give guidance that was unnecessarily conservative. Eli and Handy have far more credibility than Micron does.
Guess we'll see who is out of touch with reality in the ripeness of time. |
