I think sometimes there are server problems that can affect apps or even crash them. I recently had that issue with a 3rd party restaurant app that even deleting the app and reinstalling it or restarting the iPhone wouldn't fix. It was the same version of the app I'd been using fine for months. The next day it worked fine.

I recommend everyone who updates their iPhone to a new version of iOS restart it afterward. In the past I've fixed several issues that way.
