I agree. IMO reporters try to appear wise by correlating past history to the present. It can be useful, but sometimes it gets overdone, like the current comparisons between the 1929 or 1987 market crashes and today's market conditions being touted in the press.

You have to apply some common sense to the process. If you compile enough data, you can correlate all sorts of disparate trends.
