If you do these adjustments then there is no tax advantage. If you don't, you
could probably create one that the IRS wouldn't notice unless they audited you, and maybe not even then.

I assume this type of creative accounting is not taught in universities and utilized by private investors with a high(?) level of risk tolerances. It would be interesting to know how astute the IRS is at discovering this form of creative accounting.
