I also looked into Inferno a little bit. From the info it seems that it is focused on multimedia type applications like settop boxes. This seems reasonable as the market for multimedia RTOS will be, IMHO, enormous. Without getting a copy of Inferno it is difficult for me to evaluate it. The material on the website tends towards the cute and the simple as one would expect.
Lucent's effort will give more visibility to RTOS but I am not sure how much they will take away from WIND since LU is a competitor to most of their potential clients as Jason mentioned. Inferno is probably their "in-house" RTOS and what they make selling/licensing it to others probably goes straight to the bottom line.
