There ARE many negative news. Here is a news posted in MF of America Online:
In this weekend's Barrons, there is an entire section on Mutual funds. Contained is that section , on Page F15 is an article entiled "The Great Unknown...Will small-caps revive in the second half?" After numerous paragraphs on the performance of these stocks, and a brief mention of those cherished by the on-line boards, there was this interesting paragraph--quoted in its entirety for those who want to save the $3.
"Most mutaul funds, it should be noted, never owned the tryly pumped up hype stocks such as Comparator and Presstek - stocks "so bizarre that even an agressive portfolio manager wouldn't touch them," exclaims Dich Hoey, who runs top performing Dreyfus Growth & Income and is a colleague of Scholnberg. "The easiest place to find these stocks is on the internet, not in a mutual fund. They have little sales or earnings and no prospects fo actual sales, and there is a large short position because somebody believes the fundamental vlaue of hte company is lower than it is, and there is low institutional ownership." Such stocks, says Hoey, will continue to slide because long-suffering short sellers are finally making money on them. And their continued decline could pose difficulites for other small stocks. |
