Shades Re: "three hots and a cot" He just checked into the Crossbars Hotel for a little R&R I guess. Sounds like a fellow who likes his fun. That alcohol is a terrible addiction. Years ago, back in the 1970's or before any American guy like your friend could go to Australia and stay no problem. No more. Hawaii is nice, whole place smells like flowers. I've only been there twice (Oahu) but really liked it. Poisonous centipedes exist all around the Pacific, I think. Closer to the equator there are some giant reddish orange ones that are really dangerous. Village boys will catch the things and pull out the fangs and then scare the young girls with them. I could certainly get used to Hawaii. Any place where you can enjoy the outdoors year round is fine with me. What I can't stand is any cold-climate place. I spent four winters in a row near the equator, now I just hate cold weather. Florida's fine too. I'm south of you and we don't aircondition. To me that is the greatest thing about the tropics, you never close yourself up inside a house. Thats what I don't like about AC and the main reason I don't use it. The US is a sort of island, in a way. Lots of our immigration problems come in through the airports and this we could control just like Australia. Many places with long land borders police them effectively. Remember the "Iron Curtain"? We may have to give some special status to Mexicans, in preference to those from elsewhere eventually. Slagle
