I can't think why the US government doesn't use the threat of using shale oil to at least keep the price of oil stable.
As to reducing NG prices it might be possible but NG is being recognised as the energy of the future and if the US is going to do anything about it it has to lock in prices now.
China has just signed a massive 25 year contract with Oz for an LNG supply. I can't get the price - it's probably commercially sensitive.
I think that what this shows is that China recognises the value of the stuff and is locking up deals around the place.
