I'm not so sure democracy is really working...

Democracy is always messy.. As Churchill aptly stated, it's the worst form of govern, EXCEPT for every other kind.

But don't be fooled. Obama is afraid of what's going on with the masses. That's why they are taking such pains to ridicule the Tea Party, which is essentially a grass-roots populist revolt against both of the established parties. And I want him to be afraid. And I want the Republicans to be afraid as well.

Chinese government fears its population

I hear this over and over, but I'm not convinced of it. It's too easy to stir patriotic fervor and a sense of nationalism and "victim mentality" to the detriment of regional stability.

I really hope that this situation doesn't come to military confrontation, but if anyone backs down to Bejing's intimidation, military or economic, it's only going to encourage more of the same.

I would just feel a lot better if their government was democratically elected.
