Anecdotally, I come to quite the opposite conclusion.

For the young, kewl is paramount, and no place is more unkewl than Lamer Land.

For yuppies/professionals/businesses having an AOL email address would be like driving a Gremlin and wearing a "kick me, I'm stupid" sign on their back. It's just so low-rent.

And don't forget AOL's reknown unreliability and documented slow access speed..

As for losing content being beneficial to AOL, that's so counterintuitive to its raison d'etre it boggles.

The downside looms so ominously as AOL is so extremely overvalued given its eventuality.
