EPA will require that consumers purchase a minimum of four gallons when buying from a gas station that sells gasoline containing 10 percent ethanol and 15 percent ethanol

Republicans criticize four-gallon EPA gas purchase mandate
Daily Caller ^ Monday, September 17, 2012

With prices at the pump worrying Americans, Republicans have railed against the Environmental Protection Agency’s new gas mandate that requires consumers to buy at least four gallons when purchasing from stations with hoses containing 10 percent and 15 percent ethanol-blended fuel.

On Monday, Republicans on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency Chief Administrator Lisa Jackson criticizing the agency’s approval of the sale of gasoline containing 15 volume percent ethanol.

Specifically, the EPA will require that consumers purchase a minimum of four gallons when buying from a gas station that sells gasoline containing 10 percent ethanol and 15 percent ethanol — also known as “E15? — out of the same gas pump.

what happens if you drive a motorcycle or scooter with less than a 4 gallon tank? What would the EPA say if I sprayed 2 gallons all over the ground?

I don't remember Congress approving this law requirement.
How will they enforce this on the consumers, they can't force us
to buy anything. Oh wait, SCOTUS. And so it begins..

How can they force you to do this?

IIRC, this is specifically because of motorcycles and other small engined vehicles.

The higher ethanol blend would damage them.

Because the tanks are small, there could be enough of the high-ethanol gas in the hose on a blend-switching pump from the last customer that the ethanol percentage in a motorcycle fillup will be enough to damage the engine.

So the geniouses at the EPA figure that if they make it illegal to buy small quantities, then motorcyclists will not use these pumps thus “fixing” the problem they created.

Well, let’s see... anything that isn’t currently under their control, that’s what.

Actually, they’re controlling energy/mobility now, so we can guess at the next control will probably be on water or food.

What would the EPA say if I sprayed 2 gallons all over the ground? If I get my wife and son out, we'll fill 3 bikes with one swipe of the card at one pump. Alternatively, you could wave a fist full of cash at someone purchasing premium for a car and "tailgate" on their purchase. I don't want E15 in my motorcycles...ever.

Why would you presume the EPA cares whether or not it damages cycles (specifically 2 strokes)?

they think “saving the planet”(which ethanol doesn’t do) is more important than anything else.

There is no way they could enforce that mandate. Actually it is quite easy to enforce. Make all the pumps pre-pay or credit card only (that's already pretty common here in Indiana) and mandate a 4-gallon minimum purchase charge.

Actually, I think you might want to do that if you are buying E10. I suspect the regulation is so enough gas flows down the hose into the car that any residual E15 on the delivery hose is diluted. Otherwise, you might get too much ethanol in what you thought was E10.It is a cluster flop just waiting to happen. Fornicate E15 and E10 - stop burning food.

Make all the pumps pre-pay or credit card only (that's already pretty common here in Indiana) and mandate a 4-gallon minimum purchase charge.

That wouldn't work as if they don't use all 4 gallons, the station would have to reimburse the amount not used. The station could not legally take the full value of 4 gallons of gas from you if you didn't use all 4 gallons.

If you drive a motorcycle, scooter or even something powered by a chain saw engine, you will not be driving very far on this gas.
E15 will destroy two cycle engines. Also older cars like maybe pre 2002 are going to stop running on E15.
Boat motors? forgetaboutit!
Ethanol is crap gas.
Corn is for making whiskey, not engine fuel.
