<The Chinese, in China, will not be a great market for some cheap cut down version of PC's.>

My own parents' mentality towards computers is to buy the best one for the money so that you won't have to buy a new one for as long as possible. Though we're Korean, this may be a reflection of the Chinese mentality that you are describing, Mary.

I feel like the only ones who are going to buy the stripped-down $500 computers are the ones who already own a computer and feel like getting a second one for various reasons. These customers have money to spend and don't mind tossing out these computers every year to buy the next $500 model. They're more likely to treat computers like consumables.

I would guess that the Chinese, like my parents, don't think this way. They'd want to make sure that the computers they are purchasing will last for at least three to four years, and they will probably spend the extra hundreds of dollars to make sure of this.

Of course, things will be different in other parts of the world.
