Obamacare Isn't Ruining the Economy the Way Republicans Had Claimed
"A common Republican criticism of the Obamacare is it's encouraging employers to keep work at part time to avoid health care costs, ruining the economy in the process. But the last jobs report before the health care law's insurance exchanges went online effectively debunks that charge entirely. See, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the September jobs report on Tuesday, and the economy isn't falling apart. Some new jobs were added but not many. One interesting data point, as Business Insider's Steven Perlberg notes, is part of the survey shows full-time jobs rose and part-time jobs actually fell ahead of Obamacare's debut: 691,000 full-time jobs were added while 594,000 part-time jobs disappeared. "This was the second straight month of part-time jobs falling," Perlberg says."
????
So "Some new jobs were added, but not many", but 691,000 full time jobs were added, and 594,000 disappeared...
Ummmm.. Let's see here. The companies that we have heard of reducing employees hours to comply with Obamacare were from employers with more than 50 employees.
According to ObamaCareFacts.com:
"96% of all firms in the United States - or 5.8 million out of 6 million total firms - have under 50 employees"
So 96% of all firms will not have to reduce hours of employees because they will not be subject to the mandate. However, since a full time employee is now considered to be one that works 30 or more hours a week. There is a large pool of workers that were counted as "part-time workers" before Obamacare, working 30-35 hours a week, that are now classified as "Full Time Workers" by payroll reporting agencies like Paychex, etc.
So of course "Full Time Jobs" increased by nearly the same rate the "Part Time Jobs" decreased. Because many "Part Time Employees" under the old 40 hour a week accounting method are now considered "Full Time Employees" under the 30 hour a week accounting method.
Some of those working as "part time employees" at companies with 50 or more people got their hours cut, so THEY WOULD REMAIN CLASSIFIED AS A PART-TIME WORKER.
The administration is simply playing a "shell game" claiming that more Americans are finding Full -Time work, when in reality, the majority have simply been "reclassified as Full Time Workers" for the benefit of the Administration.
Heck, let's move the definition down to 10 hours a week, then we will have lots Full Time workers.
