BW-Optical Cable announces new South American sales manager; additional short interest ROANOKE, VA. (Aug. 29) BUSINESS WIRE -Aug. 29, 1996--Optical Cable Corp. (NASDAQ: OCCF) announced today that short interest in "OCCF" stock has increased to 725,889 shares total. "This accounts for 27.1% of all registered shares outstanding in the float at the present time. When people sell the shares short, they are gambling that long term shareholders will sooner or later be willing to sell shares at a lower price to them," said Robert Kopstein. Optical Cable Corp. today has requested the SEC, NASD, and NASDAQ to look into the short interest position immediately. The only way people can legally borrow shares for a short position is to utilize someones "margin account" shares. We are not aware of anyone holding shares in a "margin account"; therefore, the short interest must be coming from "naked short interest" which is illegal in the United States. If long term shareholders wish to insure that their shares are not being used by these short interest players, call your stock broker and ask if your shares are in a "margin account." If they are, and you do not want them in a "margin account," ask your stock broker to immediately put your shares into a "cash account." Optical Cable Corp. has just hired an International Sales Manager responsible for South America and Central America. The company believes that the global market and for sure the South American market, with closer ties all the time to the USA, has a very large potential for new business. -0- NOTE: Further information on Optical Cable Corp. is available through our website on the Internet as follows: occfiber.com. --30--PS/ch* CONTACT: Optical Cable Corp., Roanoke Ken Harber, 540/265-0690, KHARBER@OCCFIBER.COM or Robert Kopstein, 540/265-0690, KOPSTEIN@OCCFIBER.COM KEYWORD: VIRGINIA INDUSTRY KEYWORD: TELECOMMUNICATIONS AEROSPACE/DEFENSE MANAGEMENT CHANGES REPEATS: New York 212-752-9600 or 800-221-2462; Boston 617-236-4266 or 800-225-2030; SF 415-986-4422 or 800-227-0845; LA 310-820-9473 Today's News On The Net - Business Wire's full file on the Internet with Hyperlinks to your home page.
