PB - RE: "You say this with authority.

I say it will be a match, in one way or another.

Performance should be competitive, and cost to produce is so low
it induces giggles. IMHO, of course."

Unless Cuontimemine contains FPU enhancements, the Athlon will continue to have the fastest FPU of all X86 processors.

I say this becasue the Athlon's FPU performance has been shown to be more faster than the PIII compared to how much the PIII was faster than the I-have-a-crappy-FPU K6-III.

In integer, Cuontimemine will probably be faster than the Athlon in Winstone 99 run on Win 98. If Cuontimemine contains 64K L1 cache, who knows, it may turn out to be faster than the Athlon in Winstone 99 run on NT. But in high-end Winstone on 98 or NT, the Athlon will more than likely retain its lead (if enhancements aren't made to Cuontimemine) because it has been shown to be 20% faster than the current PIII.

Too bad we have to wait almost three months for Cuontimemine to come out. We should have been able to see benchmarks in the first week of September, but, alas!, Intel had another one of their now-normal DELAYS!
