President Obama will not even nominate Susan Rice for the position of Secretary of State for the simple reason that at the confirmation hearing, she would be grilled under oath about who briefed her (provided her with the YouTube lie) before her Sunday talk show appearances, the exact conditions of the briefing, and the extent to which she suspected that she had been chosen to propagate a lie. Her testimony would at the very least juice the scandal by sparking interest in the names of the officials who provided her with the lie and the names of the superiors who approved it. She has been floated as a possible Secretary of State to give the President the opportunity to tar her critics as racists and sexists and to conceal the fact that she will not be nominated. Susan Rice's career has stalled, not entirely due to her own failings, but she can take comfort from playing a useful role in saving President Obama from the consequences of his silly and deadly (for Americans) policy with regard to Muslim terrorists.
