First Broadband Internet Network for Caribbean Islands Built With Extreme Networks Ethernet Systems
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR - news) today announced that the first broadband network connecting key islands in the Caribbean is built on its award-winning Ethernet networking platforms. Cable Bahamas, the premier Internet and communications service provider in the Bahamas, has created a Gigabit Ethernet MAN spanning 70 miles serving the islands of Grand Bahama, New Providence, and Eleuthera.

Cable Bahamas provides premium Internet access and tiered bandwidth services based on Extreme Networks' Ethernet solutions for commercial business customers and residential settings. The new network interconnects customers from the access point at the edge of the network into the network's core, providing much greater bandwidth from end-to-end, an ideal infrastructure for faster communication services. With Extreme Networks' Alpine(TM) and Summit® switching systems, data connections can be provisioned to customers in increments from 1Mbps to 10 Mps, providing abundant bandwidth for a full suite of services including tiered bandwidth services, IP video, and Internet access.

``We have built our advanced network with Extreme Networks solutions over the past year and today customers are realizing the distinct benefits from higher bandwidth and flexible services,'' said Richard Pardy, president of Cable Bahamas. ``Extreme Networks' Gigabit Ethernet switching has provided us a cost effective means to deploy services that we could not have offered with the competing products and technologies that were available.''

Cable Bahamas tested several solutions to ensure that they would gain the features and functionality the new network would require. They selected Extreme Networks for the abundance of product features, along with superior value and performance. Extreme Networks provides advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features with bandwidth shaping and rate-limiting for tiered services and advanced management.

``Customers throughout the world are relying on Extreme Networks to build broadband service networks that provide a higher performance and return on investment,'' said Paul De Zan, vice president of corporate marketing for Extreme Networks. ``We continue to enhance our position as a leader in the metro market with our high performance Ethernet solutions that enable metro service providers to create and deliver better services while keeping capital and operating expenses down.''
