Eric,

From Ruiz interview: ebnews.com

Ruiz: AMD will introduce five new processors between Nov. 15 and Feb. 15. This includes Mustang, which has a range of on-chip cache from 512 Kbytes to 2 Mbytes, depending on customer need. Mustang will be AMD's highest-performance entry into the workstation and server markets.

We seem to be going from 1 MB to 2 MB cache back and forth. Doesn't this chip need a shrink to maintain reasonable size / yield?

The Palomino [formerly known as the Corvette] will expand on-chip cache to 256 Kbytes using the Athlon core, and be available in both a desktop and mobile version. A new value-segment processor called Morgan [formerly the Camaro] will have 64-Kbyte on-chip cache and also come in separate desktop and mobile versions.

I think there was a question about Duron, if it would get the updated core or not. It looks from this that all the processors will move to the new core.

I was also hoping that all versions of the chips will get the PowerNow technology. I hope they will.

Another thing AMD should add is on chip (or in package) thermal sensor. I think it there are a lot of possibilities for the use of the thermal sensor together with PoserNow, especially for overclockers. You could theoretically set a limit to how hot you would allow CPU to run in overclocked mode before the chips falls back to normal mode.

This could be a way for Athlon to errrr.. cheat - in case Athlon can't keep up with Willy. AMD could release an overclocked processor with a built in protection hardwired in microcode that would just slow down the chip when failure was imminent.
