Obama: If We Have the Delegates, "I Am the Nominee"

CHICAGO -- The general election starts June 3rd and he will be the nominee, according to Barack Obama. “If we have got the number of delegates needed to secure the nomination, then I am the nominee,” Obama said.
While he was taking a day off to spend time with his family yesterday, a new pastor connection arose. The Rev. Michael Pfleger gave a guest sermon at Obama’s home church, the Trinity United Church of Christ, this past Sunday. During the speech, caught on tape and currently all over the internet, Pfleger mocks the moment when Hillary cried in New Hampshire and says that she feels entitled to the presidency. "I really believe that she just always thought this is mine. I'm Bill's wife, I'm white and this is mine. I just got to get up and step into the plate and then out of nowhere came, 'Hey, I'm Barack Obama,' and she said, 'Oh, damn. Where did you come from? I'm white. I'm entitled. There's a black man stealing my show.’”
Obama was quick to release a statement. "As I have traveled this country, I've been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that unites us,” it read. “That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric."
The Obama campaign is also unhappy with a fundraising e-mail being sent around by John McCain, which includes a picture of Gen. Petraeus in uniform visiting Capitol Hill. Obama surrogate John Kerry said that “Republicans are skilled at using our troops as political props,” and this is a page out of their playbook.
McCain said earlier today that it was inappropriate to use the image. “It won’t happen again,” he said.
Obama leaves Chicago for Great Falls, Montana, this afternoon to host a rally in the June 3rd state. He is not expected to respond publicly to Rev. Pfleger’s comments |
