TRIKON TECHNOLOGIES APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

NEWPORT, Wales, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 1998-- Trikon Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRKN) announced today the appointment of Tom McKee to the position of chief executive officer.

Chris Dobson will remain as chairman of the board of directors.

"Having completed the company's restructuring and refinancing over the last few months we have now put into place another piece of our strategy to reestablish Trikon as a leading edge competitor in Metallisation, CVD and Etch," said Chris Dobson, chairman.

"Tom's knowledge of the industry, strategic vision and 30 years of experience within the semiconductor equipment industry give him the expertise to leverage our technologies into sales growth and profitability. McKee left IPEC in January 1998, where he served as president and chief operating officer. McKee has held various senior management positions within the semiconductor industry and was the founder of Semiconductor Systems Inc. in 1982.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity," said McKee, chief executive officer. "Trikon has excellent technologies and field support. There is a strong history of world-class innovation at Trikon. The Engineering, Process and Manufacturing facilities are exceptionally good. Trikon is positioned to capture a significant market presence for leading edge interconnect processing tools."

In addition, McKee has been appointed to the board of directors. He replaces Jeremy Linnert. Linnert will continue as the company's chief financial officer.
