Trakker,

You can't be serious to try and compare tape backup systems to removable hard drive systems (jaz). The same goes for the pinnacle announcement.

The key factor here to remember is "time to access data". Find out how long it takes to access data on the tape once it has been written to it (A very long time since the tape has to wind to the starting position of the data segment).

Why should someone be worried about Pinnacle? This announcement declares a 4x read and a 4x write capability. Each "x" represents 350 kilobytes, hence 1.4 Mb transfer rate. This can't compare to SCSI speeds.

Conclusions: The media announced by the Mammoth tape system and Pinnacle does not effect Iomega.
