Are you, or is anybody on the thread aware of the status of the relationship between Starfish and General Magic. Does it still exist, does Serengeti still use Starfish technology? I have also spliced in a paragraph from a more recent press release from Starfish regarding an alliance with HP.
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. -- April 28, 1997 -- Subsequent to its alliance with Motorola (NYSE:MOT), Starfish Software today announced a technology agreement with General Magic, Inc. (NASDAQ:GMGC) whereby, Starfish fully scaleable, Java-based, client/server technology components will be integrated with General Magic's upcoming network-based communications service, code-named Serengeti. With this technology agreement, Starfish furthers its commitment as a technology provider to the Connected Information Appliance industry. (snip)
PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 18, 1998 -- Hewlett-Packard Company, the leading provider of Microsoftr Windowsr CE-based palmtop PCs, and Starfish, a leading supplier of technology for Connected Information Devices (CIDs)(1), today announced that Starfish, which developed the TrueSync Technology Platform for mobile devices, including REX, and HP intend to work together to build cutting-edge accessories to provide unconscious portability for mobile-computing customers. Starfish developed the TrueSync technology in the revolutionary REX card, the first wearable Connected Information Device. REX holds up to 3,000 contacts, schedules and notes in a credit-card-sized unit. The combination of the TrueSync technology from Starfish and HP's expertise in handheld computing can offer significant enhancements to mobile-computing customers.
I realize at first glance these are probably totally unrelated areas, they are different products alltogether. But I hate to see Starfish's latest press release tied in with the CE camp.
You would have thought Philippe Kahn's company would be announcing more Java related press releases (or does Kahn harbor no resentment toward Microsoft).
Anyway, this question will also be posted on the General Magic thread, happy hunting. |
