I'm not the expert on Rambus that many people around here are, but I do have an observation about this snafu that I'd like to put in gorilla-game terms.

The woprldwide product adoption by the hardware manufacturers is at the same point today as before the snafu. To the extent that there will be a delay in getting product to market, the product adoption by the end users will be slowed temporarily. When product finally gets to market inside PCs, it will probably be adopted at the same rate as if the third-slot problem had never ocurred.

The one issue that might result in slower adoption at the outset is timing relative to the holiday season. If the PCs with Rambus's product aren't available in time for that huge buying season there will be some product adoption delayed for a year.

More important to me is appreciating the perspective of Intel's link in Rambus's value chain. Intel has had a glitch supporting the product adoption but that link in the value chain has not suffered a change in motivation.

As for all the other product adopters (Sony, etc.) and links in the value chain, there hasn't been a hint of change.

To summarize, all the product adopters are just as motivated today as yesterday. All the members of Rambus's value chain are just as motivated. Fundamentally, there's been no significant change in the evolving story of this gorilla wannabe.

My opinion.
