The shares (ETS: news, chart) dropped a staggering $2.57, or 62.1 percent, to $1.57, on volume of 15.6 million. Earlier in the session, they plumbed a 52-week low of $1.40.

Analysts were unanimous in their denunciation of the prospects for both the company and its stock.

JP Morgan H&Q took its rating down to "market underperformer" from "market performer," citing its belief that "the company faces a particularly arduous uphill battle whilst losing market share to peers." It tabs Cisco (CSCO: news, chart), Extreme Networks (EXTR: news, chart) and to a lesser extent, Foundry Networks (FDRY: news, chart), as the beneficiaries of Enterasys' misfortune.
