I believe all computer companies have. As competition has gotten tougher and companies have had to cut costs, that comes out of QA too. For an OS upgrade, It also has to do with the complexity of today's operating systems. We're a long way from System 6 and Windows 3.1. It just isn't possible anymore to test complex OS software thoroughly before it's released, there are too many combinations and permutations of hardware/software.

Could Apple do a better job with QA? Probably. Are they likely to? I doubt it.<<

You make good points about the complexity of today's Operating Systems. Add to that the fact that Leopard supports a very wide range of hardware, compared to previous OS versions. Everything from G4s to Intel quad-core Xeons. Obviously that's nothing in comparison to what Microsoft has to support, but it's a lot for Apple.

But I don't know that Apple has really gotten worse. Yes, it seems that we see more complaints now than we used to after major upgrades. But there are a lot more people using Macs now, and a lot more people are posting to support discussion boards than in the past.

Are there more problems on a percentage basis? I don't know. I haven't seen any figures one way or the other. Clearly there is a perception, at least among some people, that Apple has gotten worse at this. But I don't know that the perception is correct.
