Go back to your childhood........they were the kids who had all the great toys but refused to share unless you played their way. They were the ones with an candy bar who wouldn't give you a bite. They were the ones who stood back when everyone was horsing around, playing at being good buds. They were the ones who got others in trouble at school. They've had a long history of not being very nice, and so its normal for them to begrudge anyone who gets anything 'free' including the pittance people get under welfare. I don't mind that some get welfare - it isn't some sort of lavish lifestyle for nothing. Lots of people have lots of reasons they can't earn their own living. Sick, mental illnesses, incapability - no economic opportunity. Actually, the whole system is fairly contrived. The people who receive welfare barely get enough money to survive. The shortage is intended to motivate them to get a job but instead, causes them to live in fear and spend all of their energy focused on how to get from one welfare check to the next without starving. There are a few overachievers who eventually manage to get off welfare but the rest succumb to the futility of it all. Its rather sad........no other developed nation in the world is so niggardly with its public assistance. Most republican types take more than their fair share out of society - why do they resent those who have so little? That's the ultimate irony......the rich who usually belong to the GOP get richer and richer while the poor get poorer. Study after study shows the rich gaining a greater and greater percentage of the nation's resources and wealth. The lesser people of the GOP help to support and maintain this travesty. I would laugh if it weren't so pathetic.
