No convicted felon is legally allowed to possess firearms, not even a .22 cal single shot rifle. The problem is the Govt can't enforce the laws they have on the book now against most criminals! The answer has always been to pass more and more laws against law abiding citizens which the criminals simply ignore! I've also noticed a trend of police and BATF to vigorously go after people with no criminal records, which is easy and non-dangerous work to boost stats to justify their budgets, claim they solved this huge mountain of "gun crime" and ignore the gangs, mafia and the organized and dangerous remainder.
