Some good news on the wildfire front from NE BC; most of the area received 10 to 20 mm of rain over the weekend, calming things somewhat on the front lines. However, the area remained mired in a two-year-long drought so it is going to take a lot more precip to get things back to what used to be normal.

Likewise, things have calmed down somewhat in areas of Manitoba and Saskatchewan and some evacuees have been allowed to return, but thousands remain away from home for the foreseeable future.

Canada-wide, there have been more than 3.7m ha burned so far this year. This is more than the average for the entire year, and is the second highest total recorded any year to this date. And the long term forecasts are for a hot and dry summer, so more and more events across the country are being rescheduled to avoid the summer months.
