That's what the economic statistics show too:

From late '60s on, (but most especially in the decade of the '70s) the entrance of WOMEN into the American workforce helped to stabilize/maintain the average real wages that families were bringing in... a counter-balance to the real wage compression that was afflicting male wage-earners at the time.

Without (first) wage earners working longer hours (always the first reaction folks take to cope with rising prices and stagnant real incomes), and (second) the wives entering the American work force in massive numbers, real take-home income for American families would have suffered major declines.
