The irony of course is that the plantation system without modern farm machinery would not been nearly as successful had there not been slave labor. Given the growing distaste for slavery that was occurring throughout the world around that time, that made it a flawed economic model. And yet, here is this 21st century woman suggesting that everything was peachy keen in a prosperous, dynamic South that very much looked like Gone with the Wind pre civil war and then came the big, bad North ruining everything. I understand that conservatism likes to look back and typically likes what it sees when it does so but that view is ridiculous.
