"My life feels like one incredibly long hallucination that borders sometimes on excitement and most times on boredom peppered with long periods of total unconsciousness lasting sometimes for months," Muffy thought. "It lacks even the most rudimentary organization. What can be done to remedy this tragic situation, which dooms me to a pathetic life of somnolence interrupted by occasional mania?"
Muffy looked around her with wide, innocent eyes, trusting unaccountably that someone, anyone, would come to her aid. "Help me!," she cried, in anguished tones. "I need a purpose! A goal! A challenge! I need a Life Plan -- or this nightmare of disorganization will cause me to... to..."
Growing suddenly faint with emotion, Muffy sank down, and arranged herself in a fetal position upon the soft grass under the willow tree. "The unexamined life is not worth living," she muttered as she spread her pink ruffled skirt becomingly about her darlingness, and then, with tears brimming from 'neath her dull yet cute eyes, whispered to no one in particular (for she thought no one was near), "If someone doesn't inspire me, I shall end my life. Yes, I shall. I shall simply pound my pretty little head against the trunk of this tree until my story is over and my hair is all mussed up." |
