Is it? I don't agree. I know I drive a lot to places where I would not go if the fuel was expensive and I could not afford it. I believe that Americans just imagine that the demand is inelastic.

Take a look at Europe and you will see that taxes worked there.

But you have a choice what to buy. Detroit would not build SUVs if people would not buy them (they would not build Hummers either if there was no demand). Hybrids are available on the market, so don't tell me that consumer is not part of the problem.
