When I first moved to Salt Lake City, I was planning on buying a run down mansion in a historic district right next to the capitol building, but when I discovered that the city would be dictating every little thing I did to restore it, that it would have to comply with the requirements set by a committee of anal-retentive old Mormon historical society ladies, I passed on the thing

That's the smart thing to do if you are not into historic preservation.
