Blair battles comparison to lap dog in support for Bush

LONDON - The British are renowned dog-lovers. But that doesn't mean they want a poodle for prime minister.
Poodle, though, is the insult being flung these days at two-term Labor Party PM Tony Blair - as in "Bush's poodle."

With distaste for war with Iraq running high among the British public - and showing little sign of easing after Secretary of State Colin Powell's anti-Iraq presentation to the U.N. Security Council Wednesday - Blair finds himself constantly characterized as a canine companion trotting at the American president's heel.
