You get paid to understand complexity.

That's why I own INTC and not MOT. If it had gone the other way we programmers would probably have been happier...

It's easy to program in the 68K architecture, so you probably wouldn't earn as much money and be as happy. Programmers who understand segment registers and lots of memory models earn more money. The only 68K folks who earned big bucks are the guys who understand Unix internals, which makes the x86 architecture seem easy, logical, and well-documented.
