I am reminded of a guy I knew in college who argued (half-jokingly) that littering was ok because it created jobs for people to clean up the litter.

Which brings up the "cash for clunkers" program. Congress is going to stimulate the economy by borrowing (or taxing us) to buy our used cars and, presumably, destroy them. Then we take that money, add a bunch more of our own (or borrow), and buy a new car.

Broken window fallacy at its finest. Hey, why don't we demolish a bunch of perfectly good bridges and buildings so we have to replace them? Think how many jobs that would create (or save).
