Good points. We talk here a lot about costs, but part of the problem is also abuse. People find "openings" in the "air tight" government programs. One of the impossible problems which a single payer system will face is that they'll keep creating new "openings" while attempting to control old ones. And everything they decide will be - quite literally - a "federal case" - huge, with big repercussions. They will continuously struggle between allowing to much -- and being to restrictive. And the decision about who will get which will depend on.... political connections. We all know how this plays.
