Tom,

TD-SCDMA is vaporware, a face saving vaporware for nothing more than national pride. Just think of it logically. No one ever had any TD-SCDMA products that are remotely commerically available. In this highly competitive world, even China would not use risk the billions involved in an unproven system.

One of the major reasons why China wants CDMA is because of their total screw up in the GSM world. Laodeng told me that China MII authorized 20+ GSM manufacturers and yet, couldn't capture much of the GSM market.

As we have discussed here for months, China is not going to make the same mistake with CDMA. There are two issues involved here.

1) are the domestic manufacturers ready to deliver, both in terms of technical competence as well as production capacity?

2) what type of external pressures would China receive, especially with WTO still in doubt, if China awards all the contracts to domestic manufacturers?

Now, why would China NOT want to keep it quiet?
