You are correct. Although you must claim revenue the quarter it is realized there are many ways to play with the P&L so that earnings are essentially deferred. I can't imagine why INTC or any other company would ever do that to the extent of missing the current quarter estimates. Usually this is done to smooth out earnings because you are having too good of a quarter and don't want to show a sharp drop off in the next quarter. I hope (and am guessing) that INTC has earned more than enough to beat estimates and still "reserve" some eanrings for a great start in 1Q97.
