Marie, I think a good reason the new BIOS is so advantageous to the Iomega Zip is that it breaks one of the major perceived advantages of the LS120. Since the LS120 is a 2 in 1 disk, a standard 3.5" floppy and a 120 Mbyte disk, it appeared to be the only one that could be used in the bootup drive position - thus guaranteeing it a position in all future PC's. This new BIOS removes the dependence on the slow floppy and essentially neutralizes the LS120 advantages. It's obvious the 3.5" floppy is useless - so why propagate it? Instead, do a service to everyone who uses PCs and allow the new BIOS to boot entirely from a high density drive.

Now, why is this move particularly good new for Iomega? Because it comes at a time when Zips are flying off shelves and the competition hasn't even started (less poor, poor Syquest - rest their souls). I think you can mark today, 9/19/96, as the day Iomega captured the floppy replacement standard.

I've always kind of figured IOMG would start moving in September or October - just because it's back-to-college time and lots of computers would be sold. Now I think there might be a slowdown through the Q3 announcement because a lot of people will want to get out of a scary stock with their hides. But after that, I think KE's predictions for a hot Q4 will be believed by everyone and IOMG is really going to take off.

What a great day for the stock!

Jeff
